Liza Cahill is a New York State Licensed Master Social Worker with over 20 years’ professional experience working in various mental health settings across New York City and Long Island. Liza is excited to meet people where they are, and walk alongside them to where they want to be. Together she will work with you to explore the roadblocks that are obstacles in your way to a happier, more fulfilling quality of life. Treatment focuses on issues of addiction, anger management, adjustment issues, anxiety, bereavement, career counseling, chronic impulsivity, chronic pain, codependency, coping skills, dating and relationships, divorce, family conflict, financial stressors, gambling, grief, infertility, infidelity, internet addiction, life coaching, life transitions, obesity, peer relationships, pregnancy, postpartum, problem behavior, depression, mood disorders, phobias, school issues, self-esteem, sleep disturbance, stress and women’s issues. She works with children, teens and adults who are experiencing emotional, physical, behavioral, academic, employment and social difficulties.

Approaches to treatment Liza utilizes include holistic, practical and problem-solving, with modalities including Acceptance & Commitment Therapy, Behavior Modification, Cognitive-Behavioral, Cognitive Restructuring, Dynamic Exploration, Interpersonal Therapy, Mindfulness-based therapies, Motivational Interviewing, Play Therapy, Reality-Oriented Therapy, Role-Modeling, Social Skills Training, Solution-Focused Therapy and Trauma-Focused care.

Liza was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York and developed an interest in guidance and healing at an early age. She earned her bachelor’s degree in psychology from Queens College and her Masters in Social Work degree from Hunter College School of Social Work. She is a certified field instructor and supervisor of graduate level social work students.

Throughout her studies, Liza worked in several mental health programs focused on improving daily structure, routine and socialization, supportive housing, continuing day treatment, elderly respite care, mental health clinic, mobile crisis, assertive community treatment, adult psychiatric emergency room and inpatient treatment, as well as pediatric psychiatric emergency treatment. She is well-practiced at working collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team, including psychiatrists, schools and additional professionals in the comprehensive care of patients. Liza describes herself nurturing, down-to-earth and personable with a problem-solving approach to treatment. She is adept at high-risk triage, crisis intervention and acute care management.
