Dr. Vacchio utilizes Cognitive Behavioral Therapy while also incorporating aspects of Positive Psychology and Mindfulness to help his clients live their best life possible. Dr. Vacchio believes in a collaborative approach to treatment, with a strong emphasis on cultivating, developing and enhancing the therapeutic relationship. He tailors his treatment to the specific needs and challenges presented by his clients. Further, Dr. Vacchio believes in creating a non-judgmental, compassionate environment where clients feel listened to, supported and validated.
Thomas F. Vacchio graduated from Hofstra University with his Psy.D. in School-Community Psychology. Dr. Vacchio was immersed in every aspect of clinical training. He was a clinic coordinator at the Child and Family Trauma Institute as well as a therapist in the Autism Spectrum Disorder Clinic, The Family and Forensic Clinic and the Positive Psychology Clinic. Additionally, he spent time externing at The Student Health and Counseling Center at Hofstra University which serves their college population. Dr. Vacchio gained extensive experience working with adolescents and adults across a variety of socio-emotional issues. Specifically, anxiety, depression, trauma, abuse, Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), bereavement and personality disorders.
He continues to gain insight into different perspectives of psychology and is currently pursuing a post-doctoral degree in Psychoanalysis at The Derner Institute at Adelphi University.
